Is the 33rd Bihar Judiciary Prelims over? No — it has been postponed

The 33rd Bihar Judicial Services Competitive Examination (Advertisement No. 12/2026) for 173 Civil Judge (Junior Division) posts is still pending. The Preliminary Examination was scheduled for 3 June 2026, but the Bihar Public Service Commission postponed it “until further orders” by an official notice dated 25 May 2026, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s interim order dated 22 May 2026 in WP(C) 1110/2025.

What this means in plain terms:

  • The prelims has not been held.
  • No answer key, no cut-off, and no result exist for the 33rd BJSE prelims.
  • No revised examination date has been announced as of 2 July 2026. The new date depends on the ongoing Supreme Court proceedings.

Why was it postponed?

The postponement flows from litigation over the 3-year minimum Bar-practice eligibility rule for entry-level civil judge exams (arising out of the All India Judges Association judgment). In WP(C) 1110/2025, the Supreme Court’s interim directions — including the extended application window — were kept operating “till further orders.” Until the Court settles the eligibility question, BPSC has held the prelims.

What Bihar Judiciary aspirants should do now

A postponement is not a pause — it is extra preparation time you did not expect. The exam will come, most likely with only a few weeks’ notice. Use the window to:

  1. Lock the new criminal codes. BNS, BNSS and BSA have replaced the IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act. Section-mapping and the new provisions are the highest-yield area for the next prelims.
  2. Stay exam-fit with full-length prelims mocks so that when the date is announced you are already at peak, not restarting.
  3. Track BPSC officially — the revised date, when it comes, will appear first on bpsc.bihar.gov.in.

Other Bihar cycles that ARE on the calendar

  • Bihar APO (Assistant Prosecution Officer) 2026 — Advt. 13/2026, ~300 posts. This prosecution exam is not affected by the civil-judge eligibility litigation; its Preliminary Examination is scheduled for 15 July 2026. Confirm your admit card on the BPSC portal this week.
