Preparation Strategy for BPSC Judicial Services

Step 1: Master the New Criminal Laws

The BNS, BNSS, and BSA replaced IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act from July 1, 2024. This is now the most critical section of the exam. Study comparative charts — what changed, what was renumbered, and what is new. Most coaching materials still use old laws; verify before studying.

Step 2: Bare Acts Are Non-Negotiable

Unlike UPSC, Bihar Judicial exams test your precise knowledge of section numbers, provisos, and exceptions. Read CPC, Contract Act, TPA, and Constitutional provisions with commentary. Invest in Ratanlal & Dhirajlal for Evidence and Criminal Law.

Step 3: Bihar GK Must Be Specific

The GK paper tests Bihar-specific knowledge — Patna High Court history, famous Bihar personalities, Bihar government schemes (Har Ghar Bijli, Mukhyamantri Cycle Yojana etc.), and Bihar geography. Many aspirants neglect this and lose crucial marks.

Step 4: Mains Is Descriptive — Practise Writing

You must practise writing legal answers in both Hindi and English. Use landmark case law, cite sections accurately, and structure answers with Issue — Rule — Application — Conclusion (IRAC) format. Time management is key: 550 marks across 4 papers over 3 days.

Step 5: Previous Year Papers

Solve 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023 question papers. Bihar Judicial prelims often repeats similar conceptual questions. The prelims cutoff for General category typically falls between 85–100 out of 150.
